Pool Design Spotlight: Moody and Modern Project

This backyard is designed for hosting friends and family and the contemporary straight lines of the pool match the interior of the home, providing the feeling of a personal backyard result.

This geometric design is very popular right now. Straight lines allow the pool to fit perfectly into the backyard like a puzzle piece. The homeowners love to host and the outdoor living space would make any party here the party of the year. Pool Designer, Colton Frabasilio, shares his experience designing this modern project for an outgoing and social couple in Phoenix.

“The home lead us in the direction of the pool design. The modern colors and design of the home called for a pool and yard to follow suit. Adding the LED bubblers, floating pads and infinity edge just helped set the pool apart from others. The design would not be the same without those features.”

The interior finish of the pool is Moonlight Grey Pebble Radiance (no longer available, but we have close alternatives) and FRESKA ARTISTIC decking. A

Blue Square Manufacturing in-floor cleaning systemEclipse Pool Drain helps keep the bottom of the pool clean and also sleek.

“The “floating step pads” allow the homeowner and their family/friends to feel as though they are walking on water when headed to the outdoor living area behind the pool. It is not a traditional walkway around the pool, and is a stand-out feature for this project.”

Pool Design Spotlight: Scottsdale Modern Backyard

We discussed one of our recent projects with Pool Designer, Colton Frabasilio, as he walked us through the design of this Scottsdale luxury backyard.

What was it about this project that required an unusual level of quality workmanship?

The hardscape was something that really stands out about the workmanship on this project. From the large step pads in the turf in front of the patio to the tiered jump/water feature. There are a lot of straight lines which go perfectly with the style of house. Making sure we kept that theme and executing it in the field is really why the project came out so great.

Describe the design of this project and why you chose the design that you did.

The owner and I sat for a few hours and worked through a few different looks at the layout of the backyard on Pool Studio. It was important to her that the layout allowed for more than just the pool. She wanted to make sure to be able to fit a fire pit, BBQ, sport court, A LOT of turf, and a putting green! With that much going on it can be hard to make it all flow, but once again the layout of this yard came out fantastic.

Describe how this pool design integrates effectively with the home, landscape, and backyard.

This pool design is pretty simple but made sure to include customer feedback with the water feature and flush spa. The clean lines help us maximize the size and use of the yard. The pool is the centerpiece of the yard which draws the most attention. Sometimes the most simplified pool designs come out the best!

How to maintain your pool during monsoon season in Arizona

Arizona monsoon season brings high winds and heavy rain during the summer months and with each of these storms comes debris, dirt, and potential pool overflow. We sat down with Presidential Pools COO, Mike Duffy, as he shared his top tips for maintaining and cleaning your pool during monsoon season.

Maintain your pool’s water chemistry

Maintaining the chemicals in your pool is important year-round, but during the hotter months, it’s even more critical. High temps can increase the chance for bacteria to grow in your pool. Duffy suggests checking your pool’s chemicals 2-3 times per week from May through September including free chlorine, ph, and total alkalinity. After each storm, prepare to super chlorinate or “shock” your pool as part of your clean-up. This helps eliminate bacteria from rainwater, debris, and dirt.

Maintain your filtration system

Checking your cartridges often is important but necessary after a monsoon. A lot can build up and a dirty filter does not run as efficiently as a clean one.

Drain water from your pool during or after a storm, but not before

Do not try to estimate how much water will fall before a storm and drain your pool. If water fills up to or above the top of your waterline tile, you will have to drain. If you allow water to reach or pass this area, it could damage your decking.

Check your equipment after each storm

Check your skimmer basket, filters and clean and brush your pool as needed. Our Q360+ in-floor cleaning systemswill help with the smaller debris and dirt at the bottom of your pool.
